Question about the Halcyon world
« Thread started on: Jun 7th, 2004, 01:05am » |

I don't want to put in any anachronisms accidentally, so I was wondering if you could tell me what the "technology level" of Halcyon and its various islands are.
That is, are there computers? automobiles / internal combustion engines? electricity? gunpowder weapons? printing press?

This is something I've been thinking about myself, and I sort of came to rest on the idea that the Halcyon world could be similar to Final Fantasy IX time period-wise, or possibly quite like Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials (Lyra's world).
So, I guess that would mean
- computers, no - internal combustion engines, I don't know what they are - electricity, not exactly, but there is power - gunpowder weapons, no, beacuse the weapons are magic or hand to hand combat. - printing press, yes, I'd say so.
Guh. I answered that really badly If you need anything else clarifying, ask, and I'll tell you.
Also, I'm going to make a new board and move this thread to it

Just to say, dont know anything about FFIX but I can say that for Philip Pullman:
There possibly are some internal combustion engines, they certainly have large boats which Im sure are not steam driven, and they have zeppelins too.
As for electricity they do actually also have that, but in Lyra's world they called anbaric power instead of electric power

Yeah, that's sort of right, except not exactly like Lyra's world...
Oh, and, although technology is different, personalities and attitudes are pretty modern.
